Bulls continued their dominance of the new year as stocks in the region hit 16-month highs on growing economic confidence and rising risk appetite.
富时亚太指数(FTSE Asia-Pacific index)上涨1.1%，至235.29点，为2008年8月29日——恰好在雷曼兄弟(Lehman Brothers)破产之前——以来的最高水平。
The FTSE Asia-Pacific index rose 1.1 per cent to 235.29, a level not reached since August 29 2008, just before the Lehman Brothers shock.

Manufacturing stocks reacted strongly to the upbeat overnight US data and commodity shares surged. Financials and shipping lines also benefited from the positive sentiment.

Hong Kong was the day's star performer after both the Hang Seng index and the Shanghai Composite had missed out on the previous day's rallies.

Resource stocks enjoyed impressive gains on the back of rising commodity prices. Chinalco, China's largest aluminium producer, rallied 9.1 per cent to HK$9.49 while the country's leading copper company, Jiangxi Copper, rose 7.5 per cent to HK$19.80.
黄金生产商紫金矿业(Zijin Mining)飙升11%，至8.25港元；招金矿业(Zhaojin Mining Industry)涨10%，至17.50港元。中国石油(PetroChina)涨5.9%，至9.84港元，而煤炭生产商兖州煤业(Yanzhou) 劲升8.5%，至19.06港元。
Gold producers Zijin Mining and Zhaojin Mining Industry soared 11 per cent to HK$8.25 and 10 per cent to HK$17.50, respectively. Oil company PetroChina advanced 5.9 per cent to HK$9.84 while coal miner Yanzhou jumped 8.5 per cent to HK$19.06.

A report that billionaire Li Ka-shing has raised his stake in Hutchison Whampoa 18 times in the past three months helped the conglomerate's shares gain 4.1 per cent to HK$56.25.

The Hang Seng index rose 2.1 per cent, its biggest gain for five weeks, to 22,279.58, while the index of mainland companies listed in Hong Kong, or H shares, was up 3.1 per cent to 13,142.03.

The Shanghai Composite index closed up 1.2 per cent to 3,282.179, its highest in three weeks. Freezing weather in northern China added a local factor to gains for coal miners with China Coal gaining 3.7 per cent to Rmb13.96 and Shanhua up 2.5 per cent to Rmb35.12.

But real estate remained soft on fears that Beijing was considering a new nationwide property tax. Poly Real Estate led the fallers, declining 3.1 per cent to Rmb21.22.
