美林全球财富管理与凯捷顾问公司（Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management and Capgemini）最近发布的《全球财富报告》（World Wealth Report）称，2009年，美国百万富翁的很大一部分好运都要归功于海外市场。

America's wealth is increasingly leaving home.
The World Wealth Report out this morning from Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management and Capgemini says American millionaires owe a large part of their good fortunes in 2009 to overseas markets.
The report is the third this year (see here and here) to show that the number of millionaires in the U.S. rose markedly in 2009. The number of financial millionaires (those with investible assets of $1 million or more) rose 16.5% in 2009, leaving the country with 2,866,000 financial millionaires.
The total wealth of the world's millionaires leapt 18.9% to $39 trillion.
How did the rich get so much richer in a year when the gross domestic products of countries around the world, including the U.S., sank? Stock markets, largely.
Global stock-market capitalization surged to $47.9 trillion from $32.6 trillion, adding more than $15 trillion to the coffers of shareholders (largely, the wealthy).
According to the report, millionaires in Europe and the U.S. plowed increasing amounts of their money overseas last year. That enabled them to bypass troubles at home and reap the benefits of burgeoning stock-markets in emerging markets.
North American millionaires cut their U.S. holdings 5% in 2009. They still had 76% of their portfolios in the U.S., but that number is expected to decline to 68% in 2011. That may not sound like a lot. But a drop from 81% to 68% means that more than $1.3 trillion is being re-directed by the wealthy from the U.S. to Latin America, Asia and other parts of the world.
Who can blame them? Capital moves where it is treated best, and emerging markets are getting much stronger than the U.S. or Europe.
Yet the flight of capital could create a vicious cycle. If the U.S. economy isn't expanding, the wealthy will invest elsewhere, reducing growth further, and leading to more capital flight.
